As we look ahead at what's driving our technology roadmaps, this year's Data Center Dynamics DCD>Connect even in NYC offered a wealth of insights helping to shape the future of digital infrastructure decisions. What impressed me more than the fast pace and packed scheduled was the sheer depth and quality of information available. The Connect, Compute, and Investment tracks each delivered compelling debates, presentations, and panels, all diving into the dynamic topics that are influencing today's technology direction. Over the course of two days, I attended 18 sessions primarily focusing on the Connect and Compute tracks. From DCIM data and the impact of AI Agents on the infrastructure, to networking for AI and HPC workloads, and a thought-provoking panel on The Future of the Enterprise. The conversations were rich with ideas. These sessions left me with several key takeaways that are directly shaping the way we think about our technology roadmaps.
· The OT/IT relationship is more intertwined than ever. Collaboration between Technology and Facility teams is essential for success, as data center infrastructure continues to integrate deeply into both building services and the compute stack. Think of the breadth and depth of monitoring + alarming—it's no longer siloed, and success depends on seamless collaboration.
· The boundaries between data center and compute/storage/network infrastructures are dissolving. Today’s operations require legacy and current engineering knowledge to maximize the installation and investment. It’s essential that collaboration across all technologies and operations becomes a higher priority than ever before.
· The fundamentals of data center and technology projects are an imperative. Whether it’s a UPS upgrade or a server refresh, the impact of any change is felt across increasingly complex environments, affecting a wider range of stakeholders. Thoughtful project management protects the integrity of the entire ecosystem and should not be overlooked.
These insights help to drive the way we approach infrastructure decisions, ensuring that we are designing, building, and operating data centers with an eye toward the future, while embracing the evolving collaboration needed to keep our roadmaps on track.
